We've just released TaxScout, a new Socket module that gives accounting and bookkeeping practices a dashboard view of their clients' tax submission and payment statuses, synced directly from HMRC.
With TaxScout connected, you can see Corporation Tax, PAYE, Self Assessment, and VAT data for your entire client base in configurable dashboards that reflect what information your practice needs on hand. TaxScout gives you filing status, amounts outstanding, upcoming deadlines, and payment history without logging into Government Gateway for each client individually.
Why we built it
Until now, tracking clients' deadlines and balances has meant a mixture of portal checks and notes in spreadsheets. That works while a practice is small, but risks client compliance as firms scale.
TaxScout was built to close these gaps. By connecting to HMRC using Government Gateway credentials it automatically pulls live data across four tax types, so teams can see what's outstanding and which clients need to be contacted, all from inside Socket.
For larger practices especially, that visibility changes how client relationships work, allowing conversations to stay personal and specific, and building trust that keeps clients with a firm longer.

What's coming next
We're actively working on updates that will change how practices handle client compliance in Socket.
- Agent authorisation visibility. TaxScout will show you exactly which clients you have the right services authorised for, flag where authorisations are missing, and let you automate the sending of 64-8s to close those gaps.
- Automated payment reminders. Instead of manually identifying which clients have upcoming deadlines and chasing them one by one, TaxScout will handle that for you.
- Extend tax tracking capabilities: You’ll be able to monitor other submission types including Making Tax Digital for Income Tax and Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
Both are in active development and coming very soon.
How it's priced
TaxScout is a paid add-on module, priced at a flat monthly rate by client count. Pricing on the standard plan is £30 per month for up to 100 clients, or £15 per month on the annual plan. Pricing is based on Active Client count and stays the same regardless of how many Government Gateway connections a practice makes, making it cheaper than current market alternatives.
Getting started
All existing Socket customers can enable TaxScout for free until 29 April 2026. After that, standard module pricing applies. Go to Settings > Integrations > HMRC, connect your Government Gateway credentials, and run your first sync. The whole process takes a couple of minutes.
